Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Statement

Access to healthy, tasty, affordable food that is good for the environment and our local economy for every person in Sheffield

We recognise that power and privilege are not equally distributed in our society. This disparity underpins all forms of discrimination, including racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, fatphobia, ableism, ageism, or discrimination based on immigration status, ethnicity, religion, cultural and/or spiritual beliefs. We believe it is impossible to move towards a sustainable food system that works for everyone without addressing these intersecting, structural inequalities and their influence over our current food system.

ShefFood is a collective of individuals supporting a partnership of organisations across Sheffield. While we are a small team, we are strongly committed to investing time and energy into bringing equity, diversity, and inclusion to the centre of our work – and will support our partners in their efforts to do the same. This is not a solo effort and we will continue to learn from others and seek advice to help us deliver on the commitment we have made within Sheffield’s Local Food Action Plan to ‘build an inclusive food movement’. We will remain transparent about where we are on this journey, and acknowledge that while we have taken our first steps, we still have a long way to go.
