Food Matters Stocksbridge

Food Matters Stocksbridge offers two key services to support the local community. The Food Bank provides emergency food parcels, no referral needed, while the Community Outlet offers affordable surplus food from supermarkets for members. Both services operate at The Christian Centre every Tuesday and Thursday, helping to reduce food waste and ensure access to quality food. The only requirement is that users live in the S36 area.

Practices

Here at Food Matters we provide two services:

The Food Bank – receives donations of food from various sources such as people donating through their weekly shop or from schools and churches. Our team of volunteers sort and date these donations to offer to people who are in urgent need of help. No referral is needed. The Food Bank is open every Tuesday and Thursday between 10:00-12:00. If anyone is in urgent need and unable to visit during those times you can contact our food bank coordinator on 07912 609791. We are based at The Christian Centre, Cedar road, Stocksbridge, S36 1FL (just opposite The Spar).

The Community Outlet – receives surplus food from supermarkets, which would otherwise be wasted. We offer a year’s membership for £5 and our members can then pick up to 20 items of food each time they visit for a small donation of £3. This helps to reduce the amount of food being wasted or going to landfill and offers our members good quality food at a fraction of normal shop prices. We now have over 200 members. The community outlet can also be found at The Christian Centre, Cedar Road, Stocksbridge, S36 1FL open on a Tuesday and Thursday between 10:00 and 12:00.

Upon arrival at Food Matters, people are greeted by one of our friendly volunteers who will discreetly ask which service is required. If an individual requires food bank support, one of our volunteers will then talk the individual through our registration form and complete the details needed to identify the support required, we can also signpost to other services such as Citizen’s Advice as well as offer urgent food support. The only requirement is that individuals live in the S36 catchment area that covers the areas of Stocksbridge, Deepcar, Upper Don and Penistone.
