The Return of Sheffield Food Festival 2022

2022 sees the return of so many fantastic events that haven’t been able to take place for the past two years. The Sheffield Food Festival was last hosted in 2019, so we are super excited to see this four-day foodie lovers festival back in the city centre this June. Right in time for the Jubilee weekend!

What’s the Sheffield Food Festival?

Sheffield Food Festival is a market-style event celebrating Sheffield’s vibrant food scene. The festival’s ethos is to showcase and celebrate the city’s incredible local food and drink producers. This includes food growers, meal makers, bakers, edible creators, brewers, distillers and anyone whose mission is to bring delicious treats to the people of Sheffield. The festival features stalls from all these fantastic businesses and a massive variety of street food stalls to feed everyone who joins. The festival is the city’s largest free-to-attend event. It takes place in the city centre, spreading across the Peace Gardens, Winter Gardens, Millennium Square, Town Hall Square and Pinstone St, attracting thousands of visitors across a weekend.

What’s on for 2022

In 2022, Sheffield Food Festival takes place over the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June. As always, it will feature a tremendous number of food producers and street food vendors.

There will be stalls dedicated to a range of vegetables, fruits, spices, preserves, oils, cakes, cookery books, craft beers, gins, cakes and much more for visitors to learn about, buy and enjoy. In addition, the extensive Street Food market will be jam-packed with tasty treats from other local companies.

There will also be the Green Village area, hosted by Heeley City farm, highlighting sustainability in the city. This part of the food festival will put a spotlight on organisations and groups that are working on sustainable and environmentally beneficial products, practices and procedures.

Eats, Treats and Beats Festival Village will be hosted in the Peace Gardens for those looking to make a full day of it. This area will provide a demo stage for chefs, celebrities and local people to give cooking demos and talks about all things food and drink. Not to mention, they’ll be live music and DJs throughout the day.

Why Sheffood thinks the festival is fantastic

The Sheffield Food Festival is the perfect demonstration of how incredible food is in Sheffield and why it is an essential part of our vibrant city.

Firstly,  with over 90% of the traders based in the city, it shows what a great place Sheffield is for food and drink businesses to start and grow. As part of our mission, we encourage and support more food-based companies within the city. Food organisations and enterprises provide local people with training, education, and jobs – boosting the local economy.

Secondly, the festival highlights that delicious and nutritious food can be made in our local environment. The more food that is produced and made in the city, the better communities’ can access it.  Food grown in the urban and peri-urban parts of the city has reduced food miles and is more suitable for our local weather. That means it’s cheaper to produce, tastes better and is better for local biodiversity.

Lastly, it’s a festival that brings people together. Food is a crucial part of our communities because sharing food is something everyone can enjoy and come together for. Learning about food, trying new things and maybe even having a go at cooking, can all be ways to strengthen our community. The Sheffield Food Festival is a celebration of all types of food and drink in the city, and as Sheffood is all about food, we know it’s an event that everyone can enjoy no matter who you are.
