Instant flavoured porridge brands tend to contain added sugar. Oats are naturally low in sugar, provide slow-release energy and are a great source of vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants. Using unsweetened milk with simple porridge oats saves money and you can add natural sweetness with your choice of fruit.
Homemade Oats
- 50g porridge oats
- 350ml unsweetened milk
- Handful of mixed berries
- Put 50g porridge oats into a saucepan, pour in the milk and bring to the boil. Simmer for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour into bowls and top with your choice of mixed berries – strawberries, blueberries and raspberries all work brilliantly.
