Lowfield Says No to McDonald's

McDonald’s Tries Again: Drive-Thru Plans Resubmitted for Lowfield

Despite withdrawing their original application earlier this year, McDonald’s has once again submitted plans for a drive-thru restaurant on land north-west of London Road and Broadfield Road in Lowfield (S8 0ZF).

The fast-food giant pulled its first proposal in July after it became clear that Sheffield City Council was poised to reject it. At the time, over 270 objections from residents, community groups, councillors, and MPs made the community’s opposition resoundingly clear. Concerns centred on the outlet’s proximity to Lowfield Primary School, local parks, and community spaces — and the impact another drive-thru would have on children’s health, local traffic, air quality, and Sheffield’s independent food economy.

The resubmission is both disappointing and frustrating. It ignores the strength of local resistance, the City Council’s own planning guidance, and the wider aims of Sheffield’s Local Food Action Plan, which seeks to build a healthier and fairer food system for everyone.

ShefFood stands with residents in saying once again: this development is not right for Lowfield, nor for Sheffield.

Residents can read and respond to the resubmitted planning application via the Sheffield City Council planning portal by searching: Land North-West Of London Road And Broadfield Road, Sheffield S8 0ZF. or visit: https://planningapps.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=T2EXTSNYKC100&activeTab=summary
